01. Why are Dental X-Ray necessary?
Dental x-rays are a great diagnostic tool that can help your dentist see any damage or disease that isn’t visible to the naked eye.
02. How often should I take an X-Ray?
For a normal healthy adult the ADA (American Dental Association) recommends getting a complete Dental x-ray every 12 months. This depends on the status of your overall Oral Health status. Your dentist may prescribe additional exams.
03. I have an old X-Ray
If your x-ray is up to 1 year old, generally you don't have to take another one. Always keep your old x-ray for comparison purposes. It is in your best Health interest to retain and present these x-rays.
04. Is Dental X-Ray safe during pregnancy ?
The amount of radiation used a Dental x-ray is very low and according to both the American Dental Association and the American Pregnancy Association, is not enough to cause any harm to a pregnant woman or her baby. You will have to be exposed to a lot of radiation during pregnancy in order for it to harm a developing baby. The amount of radiation that one is exposed to during a standard dental x-ray is .02mSV radiation. You will have to be exposed to at least 2,500 times that amount in order for you or your baby to be harmed by it. It is also importnant to note that the small amount of radiation that you are exposed to will only be in your mouth. The baby will not be exposed to it. You will need to let your dentist know if you are pregnant. Everyone should wear a lead apron during an x-ray. In general, it is safe for you to get a Dental x-ray at any Point during your pregnancy. However, if you need Dental work done, then it is best for you to get the work done during the second trimester.
